Who Own’s Southwind?

I came across this June 15th article in the Clarksdale Press Register titled “Wyldlife Youth Ministry Takes To The Road” (Clarksdale, MS).

The article is a pretty good one, highlighting Wyldlife and leaders Frank & Kristina Brown as they got ready to head down to Southwind.  But about about 1/3 of the way down the article is this sentence…

They boarded a bus chartered with Starkville Trailways was bound for a summer camp the Browns own near Ocklawaha, Fla.

How funny is that?  I’m sure the paper got it wrong, or possibly citing scripture about God owning everything the Brown’s feel they do own Southwind.  Don’t we all?

But, then I realized what probably happened.  You’ve been there, you want kids to go to camp so bad.  I’ll bet the Browns were having a conversation with a reluctant parent who didn’t know Young Life very well, but they knew the Browns.  “Oh, it’s a camp you own.  Sure I’ll let my kid go to that.”

Hey, whatever it takes.

This is the owner of Southwind responding. But seriously, it always amazes me how things get misquoted. It is also fun living in a small town where a reporter sees a bus and it becomes a story in the paper.

Yeah, in Orlando, they see us gathering in a parking lot waiting for a bus and the cops show up. Where in Mississippi is Clarksdale? I hope your trip to Southwind was awesome!
