I listened to a podcast this morning from George Siemens’ Connectivism Blog.  He is a leader in the education community when it comes to Web 2.0 technologies and their use in education.

I’m serious about not going to the podcast yourself, unless you are suffering from insomnia, but there was one point he made (unfortunately near the end) that I thought would be useful for leaders who are trying to use the internet to communicate with kids.

In essence he said that people are not primarily using the internet (and other technologies) to get information, but instead to get connected.  Think about it.  The 2 hottest things with our kids right now are text messaging and myspace, neither of which provide a whole lot of substance.  They both, however, provide kids opportunities to quickly connect with other people, even people they’ve never met.

Just something to think about as you blog and develop your area mSites.  If we want to use the internet to connect with kids, we need to think about how what we are doing is giving them opportunities to get and STAY connected.
