Planning this campaigners was a little tougher than the previous 2, but it turned out great.
We put down the Bibles for a while and asked the guys to pretend they were planning a Need talk. What illustration or story (something that happened in the past week) from the world at large, that demonstrates something is missing or wrong with us.
They brought up a the Ramsey’s suspected killer, some murders in our town, and the fighting in the Middle East. We made every guy give at least one example.
An interesting observation was made by one of our guys. He said, “It seems like all these things have something to do with death.” We’re going to come back to that this week when we use Romans 6:23 and link our need to our sin. All of our campaigners are Christians and know where we’re going, so we talked a little bit sin. We tried to stay focused on need, though.
Then, we made it more personal. I asked what in their own lives shows that they have a need, that something is wrong. I started and talked about my own broken family when I was a kid. We didn’t maket them all share, but several of them did.
After about 30 minutes of discussion, we opened up to the story of the fall of man and discussed man’s desire to cover himself from other people and to hide from God. What we really “need” is to have those relationships restored, but we don’t necessarily need to walk around naked.
We also read about the woman at the well, pointing out that Jesus basically gave her a need talk, by recounting her life and the problems she had gone through.
