6 Week Campaigner Series – Weeks 4 – 6
I fell a little behind on writing about our 6-week campaigner series on the series of club talks, so I’m bunching the last 3 together.
We actually finished it up 2 weeks ago, and the last week was definitely the most rewarding campaigners I’ve been involved in. But, before we get there, we need to look at weeks 4 & 5.
I was actually sick that night, so Matt had to lead it. Basically, the guys had time to discuss the difference between our condition of sin and the symptoms of that condition. Like all the other weeks, we really wanted to make sure they got it, to give them time to discuss and ask questions. With sin, things got a little off topic, but that was great. They guys talked about common sins in their lives and Matt was able to speak openly and honestly about it with them.
We started out by recapping the sin lesson. Since I wasn’t there, I had the guys tell me what they talked about last week. It’s always a good teaching tool to have them explain what they learned. I was able to ask some good questions. We probably spent about 15 minutes just recapping sin.
Then, we turned the corner and began to talk about the cross. I had them tell me what they remembered from the camp speaker’s cross talk. How it made them feel? What were some of the specifics of his talk?
The rest of the time was spent reading scripture together. We covered the crucifixion from Jesus being arrested until he said “It is finished”. We jumped around the 4 gospels to get a good feel for what it must have been like to be there. The Luke account of Peter denying Christ was really powerful, because it talks about Jesus turning to look at Peter at the sound of the 3rd rooster crow.
This was awesome. In a nutshell, we spent the entire time talking about our testimonies. First we read Paul’s testimony. Then each leader gave their testimony.
After that, we encouraged each of our guys to share how they came to Christ? Every single one of the guys who went to camp talked about conversations they had with their leaders, and it was so amazing to see them each begin to tear up as they talked about it. I couldn’t help but think about how valuable it was for them to share these stories to one another as they recounted the first time they trusted Christ with their lives. It seemed to solidify their decisions.
All of these studies are posted here on the leader wiki. Feel free to use them, add to them, or change them.
