This weekend, we had a get-together for all the Young Life leaders in the area. And from our time together, I was able to see that our community of Young Life leaders is headed in the right direction. There is a genuine love and concern for each other. We feel united in purpose. We build each other up instead of tearing each other down. And as a result, the ministry of Young Life is starting to thrive in this community. The support that we feel from each other spurs us on to do great things for the Lord.
The importance of spiritual community has been on my mind a lot recently. I have been reading through the book of Acts, which seems to paint a fairly accurate picture of how important spiritual community is. The early Christians were not very popular people, and they had to rely on each other (and God) for everything. I believe that Jesus intentionally set the apostles up for success by giving them not only the Holy Spirit, but each other.
We need each other.
At your next team meeting, or at your next committee meeting, or at your next all area gathering, turn to the people you are gathered with and say to them, “I need you.” Not that you need them as a person, but more so as a vessel for Christ to shower you with love and encouragement as you seek to glorify His Kingdom in all that you do — and especially in the ministry that He has called you to. When we are loved, encouraged, and supported, our ministry will reach new heights.
What does your spiritual community look like? What are some things that you can do to increase the love and presence of God within your group?
Feel free to share your thoughts and your stories with us. That’s what we’re here for…

That’s especially true when new people join the team.
I think it’s important to be mindful of how we are loving each other and buiding each other up.
Spending time together away from kids is a great way to build that community.
