There was a vote yesterday at the University of Central Florida to equalize the penalties for drinking underage & smoking pot. I don’t know how I feel about that. I guess it probably falls in the category of “who cares”, but there was this college, pot-smoking, chick on the radio who had this profound quote, referring to the more stringent consequences for smoking pot.
“It’s definitely just making an entire culture seem evil and bad when it really isn’t.”
This is humorous and telling about our culture on a couple different levels. First of all, smoking pot is now a culture? Or is she assuming all college students smoke pot, and making this claim about the college culture? I’m not sure.
But the other thing is that she has absolutely no qualms about an entire culture being based upon something that’s illegal. The activity is not the issue for her. Breaking the law is not the issue. The issue is that the consequences somehow make her feel that she’s doing something “evil” or at least she thinks those who enforce the law are saying the culture is “evil”.
You know what? Her problem is not that someone is calling her evil. Her problem is that she thinks she’s good. I want to say, “Sweetie, you are evil, and so am I. We all are!”
God gave us the law in part to show us how messed up we are. In this case the laws at UCF are doing that job. This girl just fails to realize it.
