When I think of the Olympic Games I think of the history behind it. I mean, how many traditions have lasted as long as the Olympics?

It’s being reported that the traditional torch relay has been interupted by protesters, even forcing the torch to be extinquished.

The Olympic torch had to be extinguished during the Paris leg of its marathon relay on Monday, police said. Protests over China’s crackdown on Tibet forced organisers to put the Olympic torch on a bus to protect it from demonstrators shortly after it set off from the Eiffel Tower.

The torch then had to be extinguished because of a technical problem, a spokesman for the Paris police told Reuters. After a brief interruption the torch was re-lit and the relay resumed.

Without making judgements for or against the protests, this is a great illustration of a light that seems to stand for everything good in our world. Hard work, unity, athletics. But, in the end, it’s really just another little flame.

Isn’t it awesome to know that as Christians, we have a relationship with the King of the Universe, the Light of the World that can never be extinquished?
